Introducing: Delicatessen

July 18, 2008

The second project from the team that brought you Cafeteria, comes Delicatessen – the new Nolita soon-to-be hotspot on 54 Prince St. (where the staff will be wearing Charlotte Ronson designed uniforms) is officially opening today. In keeping with Cafeteria’s success with their amazing mac & cheese, Delicatessen will eventually have a “Macbar,” which will offer 12 different kinds of macaroni and cheese! Sadly though, the operating hours are not after-club friendly as they close at 1 a.m. We’re hoping their hours will change in the near future as the L.E.S. builds up with new stores and venues; if not, where will all the hungry people in the area go for late-night food?! [NY Mag]

Update #1: We passed by Delicatessen on it’s opening night last night around 10:40 and it was packed but there didn’t see to be a wait longer than 15 minutes for a table.  The wait @ Cafeteria around 3 a.m. is usually longer than what we saw just passing by.

Our Kind of Mayor!!

July 18, 2008

Belmar mayor Ken Pringle may have gotten himself in a little bit of trouble with Staten Island, but earned some respect from us! In his July 4th newsletter he points at Staten Island sluts girls and their Guido counterparts as a problem in his township (which just legalized keg-parties). We’re not sure what problem he is really referring to, other than their “costume-like attire.” He is dead on with his description of people from Staten Island who “put on too much hairspray” and can be seen wearing Armani Exchange (he obviously forgot Ed Hardy) and “artfully distressed jeans on males.” In all fairness to Staten Island, we don’t honestly know the difference between a Staten Island girl/guy and a Jersey-Shore girl/guy…kinda the same thing – put either of them in a room full of Manhattanite’s and they stick out like a sore-thumb.

Update #1: It seems the Mayor will be forced to take a tour of Staten Island to avoid a proposed boycott of Belmar after making fun of the Island.  We have a question…what is this going to solve? Isn’t a tour going to prove his point that Staten Island is really garbage?  What is the tour going to consist of? A trip to the Staten Island Mall…or maybe Snug Harbor…what else is on Staten Island?

Movie Premiere: The Doorman

July 18, 2008

We all know The Dark Knight will take top honors this weekend, but if you’re not going to see Heath’s final performance or you want to see another movie, you might want to go watch “The Doorman,” an art house flick directed by Wayne Price. A film-crew follows doorman, Trevor W.’s interesting jet-set lifestyle and mid-way through production, Trevor suddenly loses his job. To bring some truth to the roles, The Doorman has a true New York nightlife cast including: Amy Sacco (owner of Bungalow 8 and The Box) and Fabrizio Brienza. City Cinema’s on 12th St. and 2nd Ave has the premiere, click here for showtimes and here for the trailer.
